I found out yesterday that painting a world filled with charisma and color begins one room at a time. That's right. The Bielicki family is coloring the world, starting with our family room.

We sampled some peach and pink.

And some blue too. We almost went with the one on the right.
The final cut: TURQUOISE - YAY!
A very special thanks to the best paint crew ever!

Walls of White
(A true story)
by Jenni Bielicki

There once was a house
Filled with boredom and gloom,
Void of all pigmentation,
Walls of white filled each room.

There was no creativity.
No wonderment there.
Just plain old white nothing
Through the house everywhere.

But then on a fine
Sunny day in July
the mother rose up,
Grabbed a brush, waved GOODBYE

To the walls of vast void,
Lacking brightness and joy,
as she handed a brush
to her girls and her boy.

They splished and they splashed
and they all gave high fives.
The color began
to spill into their lives.

When the last spot of white
Disappeared, out of sight,
the room filled with hope,
Great ideas and delight.

So they no longer live
in a house filled with gloom
Because Mother says
Everyones painting their room!

Sometimes it just happens. One minute you're making a cup of coffee and the next minute you sit down and spit out a poem you love in three minutes flat.  It doesn't happen often, but I'm glad it happened to me today.

If Can't Was Not a Word
An original poem by Jenni Bielicki

What if every word you spoke
Was exactly what came true?
What if CAN’T was not a word?
What things would you do?

Would you soar with all your might
Past all the things you see?
Would you touch the moon and sun
And be all you could be?

Would you smile at every turn
Excited and enthused
By all the things that you could do
If that word wasn’t used?

Would you hold your head up high
Accomplishing extremes
Without that single word to hold
You back from all your dreams?

I think you could. I think you would
Make all those dreams come true.
If CAN’T was not a word you used
What things would you do?

I was thinking the other day about all the division in our country and I wrote this.

UNITED States, where
WE the people
STAND strong as one nation, not when we are
DEVIDED by ideology, but when
WE respect one another, working together to rise together, lest we
FALL together.

I made yet another trip to the bookstore today. I wanted to walk away with at least 100 books.  Instead, I walked away with inspiration...

Pouring from walls of words.
Filling mind’s eye with thoughts provoking.
A flicker of light. A spark. A bright call of tomorrow's dawn.
Uncovered. Untouched. Unspoken stories, yet to be told.

Yes, you are my inspiration, my fellow writers. You are my inspiration!

Endless Days
An original poem by Jenni Bielicki
~
Endless ocean. Endless sky.
Endless hopes and dreams to try.
Endless laughing. Endless play.
Endless footprints left today.

Endless future. Endless care.
Endless me to shine and share.
Endless friendships. Endless trust.
Endless days float by like dust.
~

I sit on the seashore watching them play, wishing I could get back to those days. Those childhood days, when our hopes and dreams are but a reality before us. When our footprints are left without fear of what perfection we might trample along the way. When our future is endless. When we share our love freely and trust without end. When our days float by, wherever the mighty wind of time shall bring us.

I sit on the seashore watching them play and I realize, those days are not so far gone for me. The child in me won't let them be.

I found a fun blogger who challenged her readers to write a poem in fifteen words or less.  Of course, I couldn't pass up a challenge to write poetry. We were given a photo of a bunch of bicycles hanging in a garage (in the shape of a rainbow) and asked to use it as inspiration... And seeing how it's Independence Day tomorrow I wrote this...

In the land of rainbows
Cycles broke free,
Leaving masters behind,
Claiming their own decree.

Go to Laura Salas's blog if you'd like to play too.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY EVERYONE!!!

Well, my daughter was dressed to the nines in her golden princess gown tonight, dancing around our livingroom to classic piano... What a beautiful sight! I was so envious. So, since I couldn't dress in my own princess gown and join her, I wrote this poem instead... Enjoy!

Oh, To Be Four Again
by
Jenni Bielicki

Oh, to be four again, just for one night.
What an amazing, engaging delight!

Dancing around in my beautiful gown
and glittery, shimmery, beautiful crown.

Oh, to be four again, just for one night.
Wouldn’t it be such an excellent sight!

Curtsey, then laugh, to the pink prince giraffe
and the elegant elephant holding a staph.

Oh, to be four again, just for one night.
Wouldn’t it feel like the whole world was right!

Playing piano concertos for all
that make me feel ten feet, no twenty feet tall.

Oh, to be four again, just for one night.
Just for one night... Oh, just for one night!

The SCBWI 2009 Summer Conference in Los Angeles is just around the corner and I am just about beside myself with anticipation. In honor of this amazing upcoming event, which happens to be my first national conference for writers, I've written yet another fun little poem to keep my fingers and word-weaving thoughts entertained.

Summer Conference, Almost Here
by Jenni Bielicki

Summer conference, almost here.
Creating.
Waiting.
Elating.

Two more days to pack my gear.
Lacking.
Stacking.
Attacking.

The names and faces, not so clear.
Weeding.
Reading.
Speeding.

Each friendly face will calm my fear.
Grinning.
Beginning.
Winning.

Absorbing cheers for my career.
Yearning.
Learning.
Earning.

There’ll be a Blue Moon Ball, I hear.
Dressing.
Guessing.
Impressing.

Everyone is so sincere.
Caring.
Sharing.
Baring.

Knowing I shall persevere.
Holding.
Molding.
Unfolding.

Staring down a new frontier.
Proving.
Moving.
Improving.

Watching closely where to steer.
Twisting.
Insisting.
Persisting.

Too fast, day four will then appear.
Hauling.
Recalling.
Installing.

I’ll have new friends, both far and near.
Remaining.
Sustaining.
Entertaining.

We’ll laugh and cry again next year.
Reflecting.
Connecting.
Affecting.

Summer Conference, almost here.
Inviting.
Exciting.
I'm writing!

More poetry, just for fun...

Little Calf, Little Calfby Jenni Bielicki

Little calf, little calf, why do you hurt?
I hurt because I walked ten miles up hill and through the dirt.

Little calf, little calf, why are you sore?
I'm sore because you only walked six miles the times before.

Little calf, little calf, why do you ache?
I ache because you didn’t stretch, forgetting pain’s at stake.

Little calf, little calf, why are you weak?
I’m weak because you’re on a CANCER FIGHTING frenzy peak!

Yay! I finished a 10 mile walk yesterday while training for the big walk in September. Today I celebrate my success with very hurt, soar, achy, and weak calves.

Owchie!
Was it worth it? Absolutely!!!! Every mile, every hill, and every single pain is worth it all!
There are women all over the world who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and in September, I’m walking for their cause. I’ll walk thirty-nine miles in two days and I can’t wait. NO PAIN, NO GAIN!!!!

How can you help me? Please take a moment and go to my Avon Walk for Breast Cancer page HERE to sponsor me today and help me fight for THE CURE!

Thanks for your support! And thanks for reading my silly poem!

Coffee started Daddy’s Day.
The kids all passed out gifts.
They took turns watching Daddy, Awe,
then kissed his face in shifts.

We took a ride in Go Carts – VROOM!
A curvy, swervey chase.
Then all at once we saw a blur.
Yes, Daddy won the race.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL!!!

Yes, that's right! I actually wrote seven picture books (first drafts) in seven days. Some are absolutely adorably hillarious... and then... well, there's the rest that helped me reach my goal.

In fact, I only had two of them completed by the start of today, day seven. Yep, that means I wrote four and a half complet first drafts today. Whew!

Most of all, I learned I CAN DO IT!!! I posted this poem on Paula's web site as a 'thank you' for organizing the National Picture Book Writers Week (NaPiBoWriWee). She's totally rockin'!!!! You guys should definately keep up with her blog! She's so funny!!!

Hey, Paula Yoo!
by Jenni Bielicki

Hey, Paula Yoo!
It’s really true!
I can’t believe my drafts are through!

Your blog was revin’!
A writer’s heaven!
You helped me write my books – Yeah! SEVEN!!!!

With blogging shots
from your guest spots,
we all pressed in and found our plots.

We laughed and cried.
With you, our guide.
Encouraged now, we’ll write with pride.

We learned to snack
and keep on track
‘cause Donna’s surely got our back.

NaPiBo’s – WOW!
We all learned how
to get through seven book drafts now!

I made some friends
with lots of pens.
Let’s meet up when the summer ends.

We had some fun.
But now we’re done.
Oh wait, the work has just begun.

Until next year...
We’ll have no fear...
Because it’s fourteen days, I hear!

The real surprise...
Who wins that prize?
But ‘till we find out, let’s REVISE!

March 3, 2009

OK... my brain is spinning in rhymes today and I thought it would be funny to write about in my blog.

This is how my brain is proccessing my day...

My husband's gone, the kids at school.
My four-year-old, her tummy's full.

My daughter's dressed, she finally got
the clothing off that messy spot.

The dog needs out, the dishes done.
The phone just rang. It's her. How fun!

I'll just hang up and finish now
The funny poem about a cow.

Words and letters, rhyme and fun.
I'll end it here... so now, I'm done!

OK... now you know how my day is going...
(I think I hear a lawn mower mowing... )

LOL!!!! Hope you had a good laugh.
